2016-17 Lawrence Flames Squirt Hockey Team

Flames Squirt Team Clinches Playoff Berth

The team punched their ticket to the NJYHL playoffs with a thrilling 6-3 victory over local rival Princeton Tigers.

After compiling a league record of 13 wins, 2 losses and 3 ties, the Lawrence Flames Squirt team qualified for the NJYHL playoffs as the #2 seed in the Lillehammer South Division. They will take on North Jersey’s best in the fight for a state championship as the playoff tournament is set for the weekend of February 24-26 at Aspen Ice in Randolph.

“I’m really proud of these kids. They’ve played hard all year and I’m glad that they are being rewarded with a playoff berth after a great season of strong team play,” said coach Jim Meissner.

The team, which is made up of both first and second year Squirt players, is led by Forwards Wyatt Ewanchyna, Bailey Cook, Tino Tiberio, Graham Bricker, Cade Jones, Dean Meissner, Ryan Kim and Daniel Farrell. Collectively they scored 92 goals in 18 games of league play – good for 4th best in the statewide Lillehammer (A) Division.

The Defense is led by Austin Kolczynski, Garrett Heffern, Kyle Pechalski and Gavin Tuniewicz, and backstopped by Goalies James Friedman and Jake Lenox.

As a team, they only surrendered 44 goals in league play – 2nd in the Lillehammer Division.

Congratulations and good luck to the Flames!

Midget U16 "A" Team Goes 2-2 at Weekend Tourney
by posted 09/02/2016

After a rough start on Friday, the Flames U16 A team bounced back on Saturday with two shutouts thanks to very stingy defensive play and goaltending.  They lost in the semi-final game 4-1 at the Mid Atlantic Summer Showcase to a very solid PA team.  The Flames were in it to the end, minus an empty netter when Coach Jay pulled his net minder for an extra attacker.

All in all, the Flames U16 A are playing better as a team as the season progresses and that was evident this past weekend.
